10 suggestions for a NYC Christmas

If you haven’t experienced NY at Christmas time, it is an absolute MUST. Here are a few ideas to get you started!

1.)   Hot chocolate from Magnolia Bakery

  • I hear the banana pudding and Rockette cupcakes are a HIT also
  • More cocoa options around the city: Balthazar Bakery – Soho, Lexington Candy Shop – Upper East Side, MarieBelle – Soho, Max Brenner – Union Square, Otto – Greenwhich Village, Sugar Factory – Lower East Side, The City Bakery – Flatiron

2.)   Holiday decorations along 6th Avenue on the Upper West Side

  • If you’re walking near Lincoln Center or Rockefeller you are bound to run in to them. You may see giant lights, Christmas ornaments, a massive train and big red soldiers <aka nutcrackers>.

3.)   Christmas Markets  @ Union Square & Columbus Circle

  • May I suggest the “No Chewing Allowed!” chocolate and AC AGATES handmade metal jewelry
  • The Markets are just like the ones I got to see all over Germany last year. Try for a weekday for less crowds. Make sure to grab some apple cider!

4.)   Cute Cafés like Artopolis:

NY is known for it’s pricey menus but you can always find good food for a reasonable price!

  • Located at 113th & Amsterdam, Artopolis has great food, amazing drinks and desserts to drool over
  • $4 drinks for happy hour (if you’re into that sort of thing) and only $2 for hot cocoa

5.)   Brunch to Celebrate

  • Agave in West Village (I hear the nightlife is not to be missed either)
  • The Ellington on the Upper West side (live music included)
  • The Russian Tea Room to warm your soul

6.)   Radio City  Christmas Spectacular

  • Where to buy tickets: TodayTix  –  the place to buy last minute theatre tickets for the best prices in NYC

You may even get to see this lovely lady!

7.)   SAKS  5th Avenue Window Displays

  • An icy adventure for you and a friend
  • I hear Bloomingdale’s, Barney’s and Macy’s (on 34th St) have great Holiday Windows as well!

8.)   Rolf’s  on the Lower East Side

  • There may be a line but it’s well worth the wait. You’ll die over the extravagant décor inside and warm scrumptious drinks.

9).   Rockefeller Center   Tree & Light Show

  • Everyone knows about the gorgeous site of the tree, marveling high above all. But have you seen the light show directly across from the rink, which emanates a Frozen type feel fit for Disneyland? Yea you’ve got to check it out!

10.)   Ice Skating at Bryant Park

  • I’ve only been to the Rockefeller rink myself, although I hear Bryant Park is the place to go because it’s huge and it is FREE!
  • Open until March

( Okay so this is Rockefeller Center – but you get the idea )

Lastly, don’t forget to look up!

The Empire State Building, towering high above is filled with holiday lights for all! Christmas and Hanukkah colors are each represented.

Okay so I really just can’t get enough of Christmas in NYC. It’s a must do in your lifetime! I guarantee 😉

Basically you can’t go wrong with the amount of festivities happening in the big city. There’s always something for everyone. Date night ideas, fun with friends and the whole family! You’ll never want to leave and you just might wear yourself out, but it is so darn worth it.

Happy holidays!

Much love,

Sydney 🙂
