This shoot was very special to me.
When Michelle Coppini approached me about the idea, I couldn’t help but jump at the opportunity. Anything that involves art making and story telling is definitely my thing. I will say this time and time again but…. I LOVE collaborating with other artists!! It is such a treat for me.
Little did I know this shoot would be a transforming, spiritual and astonishingly emotional experience. I truly felt like I went somewhere in this moment.
Although I have never experienced any kind of sexual abuse, I know there are many victims who have. It seems like an incredibly dark place to live in and I cannot even begin to imagine the hurt and confusion that follows.
I have experienced many hurtful things in my life however and I do know what it is like to block large parts of life out.
Especially when it involves someone who is rather close to you.
What we aimed to do was capture the freedom of speaking out against abuse. Liberating yourself in a way so that you no longer feel trapped inside of your own body.
Instead of trying to relate to those of you who have been there, we’ll let the images speak for themselves. I only hope you can find some kind of liberating feeling from within.
Please take the time to read Michelle’s blog post here. It has some beautifully written words that I can’t even begin to match. Also take a look at the magazine article, brought to you by Angelic Mag. You can access it here. It’s entitled “Speaking out about sexual assault,” and our spread made it to the cover.
